Consent comes before any voice is added
Hearthsay preserves a loved one’s voice and memories only with permission. Here is exactly what you confirm before recording or uploading, and how that voice is used.

Before you add a voice
Please confirm each item. You must accept all of these before recording or uploading audio.
- I am 18 or older.
- I own this recording or have permission to upload it.
- If the voice belongs to a living person, I confirm they consented.
- I will not upload children’s voices or children’s personal data.
- I understand Hearthsay may use AI to transcribe, organize, analyze speech patterns, and create source-backed text answers from the recording.
- I understand Hearthsay does not recreate, revive, replace, impersonate, or clone a person.
- I understand my uploaded recordings will not be used for public AI training.
- I can request deletion of my uploaded data.
Hearthsay preserves consented memories and speech patterns for source-backed text answers. It does not recreate, revive, replace, or impersonate a person, and during Early Access it does not create AI-generated voice in a loved one’s voice.
How a consented voice is used
Uploaded voice is used to transcribe what was said, organize it into memories, analyze speech style, and produce source-backed text answers grounded in saved recordings. With verified consent, Hearthsay may also play back a labeled voice preview for family and deliver future-message capsules.

During Early Access, Hearthsay does not clone a loved one’s voice or generate audio in a loved one’s voice, and does not use your recordings for public AI training, voice cloning, or impersonation.
Children
Adults may record messages for their children. Hearthsay does not currently support children uploading their own voices or creating child voice profiles.

Sensitive information you should not save
Hearthsay is not designed for confessions, legal records, court evidence, wills, medical directives, passwords, financial credentials, or sensitive secrets. Hearthsay is for preserving memories, stories, values, recipes, advice, and family reflections.
What Hearthsay is not
Hearthsay is not a will, estate plan, legal service, medical service, financial advisor, password manager, therapy provider, grief counseling service, or crisis service.
Consent can always be revoked
Each loved one has a Consent Passport: a clear record of what may be saved, who may listen, and what Hearthsay is allowed to do. Trusted family members review and verify it, and it can be revoked at any time, which turns voice features back off.
