How Hearthsay uses AI, in plain words
Hearthsay uses AI to preserve and answer from your family’s saved memories. Here is exactly what that means, and what it does not.
Effective June 2026 · Hearthsay is in invite-only Early Access. We may update this disclosure as the product grows; significant changes will be noted here.
Every generated answer in Hearthsay is created by AI from saved source material and is labeled as such. It is an aid to remembering, not a substitute for a real person.
Answers are generated from your saved source material
Hearthsay uses AI to read, organize, and search the recordings, transcripts, and memories your family has saved, then to write source-backed answers grounded in that material. Every generated answer is labeled "AI-generated from saved memories" so it is never mistaken for the person speaking.
Answers are grounded only in what your family recorded. Hearthsay does not pull from the public internet or invent facts about a loved one.
Honesty when something is not in the memories
When there is not enough saved memory to answer a question honestly, Hearthsay says so rather than guessing. It would rather tell you a memory was never recorded than make one up. This unknown-fallback honesty is a core part of how Hearthsay is designed.
No synthetic loved-one voice during Early Access
During Early Access, Hearthsay does not clone a loved one’s voice or generate audio in a loved one’s voice, and does not use your recordings for public AI training, voice cloning, or impersonation.
During Early Access, answers are text. Hearthsay can play back original recordings your family actually saved, but it does not generate new audio in a loved one’s voice.
Bring your own AI and MCP
If you connect your own AI provider or an MCP-compatible assistant, your selected memories may be sent to that provider to answer your questions. You are told this clearly, only the providers and scopes you approve are ever used, and you can revoke access at any time. When you use your own provider, that provider’s terms and AI also apply to that use.
Unlimited AI questions are available when you connect Hearthsay to your own AI provider or MCP-compatible assistant. Hearthsay Basic includes the memory vault, original recordings, source-backed tools, and MCP access.
What Hearthsay is not
Hearthsay does not recreate a person, replace grief support, or generate messages from someone without consent. It preserves user-provided memories and speech patterns from consented recordings, and every answer is grounded in saved source material.
Hearthsay is not a will, estate plan, legal service, medical service, financial advisor, password manager, therapy provider, grief counseling service, or crisis service.
